This two-hour return trip will allow you to see some of the best of the Marlborough Sounds
This cruise will have you crossing the main reach of the Queen Charlotte Sounds will have you arriving at Double Cove, a sheltered haven of holiday homes, cormorants and our famous pet fish. After having cruised around the bay taking in some amazing water front properties and wild life nestled up in the cove, together we feed the pet fish from the vessel, Herring, Mullet and Big Blue Cod are locals at feed time along with the birds that like to join in the fun. Departing Double Cove MV Tiri Cat will take you on a cruise of discovery venturing into Lochmara Bay, Onahau Bay and around the Grove Arm of the inner Queen Charlotte Sound. The cruising area is surrounded by years of regenerating beech forest, covering 15 nautical miles this two-hour return trip will allow you to see some of the best of the Marlborough Sounds in a limited timeframe. Your friendly skipper will give a full commentary and answer any questions along the way to ensure you take away the best Marlborough has to offer. The ever-popular Sport Tasman Muddy Buddy is back in Marlborough for 2019 – the ultimate mud-packed adventure fun run for all abilities. Get your fancy dress costume together, grab a mate/parent/co-worker and prepare to get muddy! This is a great team building event for your sports team, co-workers, church group etc. It’s all good fun in the mud. The 1km marked course guarantees face-fulls of mud. Tackle the course in teams of two or in larger teams or as a family. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver and the course is designed for children 5+ years. Here’s your chance to fulfil that inner wish and slither and slide around in the Havelock Estuary mud like you have always wanted to! We guarantee that you and your buddy will have no article left clean! Loads of fun to be getting yourself muddy and your buddy even muddier! Display those expert running skills as you negotiate the slippery slide, wriggle under the cargo net and race the gauntlet through the zigzag. The only workout that can be totally enjoyed! Rapaura Springs Garden Marlborough, the nationally renowned garden festival, was dreamt up by gardeners for gardeners. A celebration of Marlborough's stunning landscape, it showcases the very best the region has to offer with garden tours, garden themed workshops and social events. The full-day and half-day garden tours encompass everything from compact designer gardens in the heart of town to breath-taking country estates. Take the opportunity to brush up on your skills and horticultural knowledge by learning from New Zealand and international experts. Mingle with like-minded gardeners and our guest speakers at the Garden Party held on the Saturday night. The festival culminates on the Sunday with the Stihl Shop Garden Fête with over 200 stall holders offering the very best New Zealand produce. Entrance to the Fête is free so bring the family and enjoy a full day's entertainment. With the stunning Marlborough Sounds on its doorstep, rugged mountain ranges, fertile plains and world class Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough has a lot to offer – so stay for the whole weekend, or longer! A detailed history of the 9th oldest ship in the world - the Edwin Fox. A large collection of artefacts from on board the ship was found whilst cleaning between the frames. The Maritime Centre is located 100 metres from the Rail Ferry Terminal on the Picton Foreshore. Access is available to the ship and also the Graving Dock she is housed in.

Waikawa Bay and Marina

Hire a kayak or go for a swim in Waikawa Bay. Ideal playground for children with a fantastic view of the Queen Charlotte Sound. Wander around the Marina and enjoy a whitebait sandwich (depending on the season) at the waterfront cafe & bar, the Jolly Roger or have breakfast, sumptuous lunch or dinner at the newly opened Spinnaker Restaurant & Conference Centre.

Open daily 10am - 4pm. It is very informative and well worth a visit. There are particular items of interest to the whaling industry, which operated from Tory Channel and Port Underwood. There are also interesting displays on Maori, Early Settlers and Mythical interest from around the area.

There are several walks within 600m of the Motel as listed below.
Bobs Bay Track – 30 min The track sidles above the shoreline with views over the Picton Harbour and Ferry terminal before descending to Bobs Bay. This sheltered bay is suitable for swimming. Humphries Dam – 40 min The track follows a formed road, then a track of easy gradient passes through native forest to a picnic area beside the lake formed by Humphries Dam Tirohanga Track (Round Trip) – 2 hrs A steep track that offers extensive views over Picton, Waikawa and the Sounds from the Hill Top Viewpoint Snout Track – 90 min From the carpark the track climbs to Queen Charlotte Lookout then continues along the ridge with extensive views over the Sounds along the way.
